Family friendly with a competitive edge

Set up by Andy Sutton in 2008, Fernwood Swords was established to cater for new and existing fencers in Newark and the broader Nottinghamshire areas, extending up to Grantham and the Lincolnshire border.

As a three-weapon club, Fernwood caters for Epee and Sabre with a focus on the Foil.

We welcome both social and competitive fencers of all ages and abilities.

The club actively seeks partnerships with other clubs, local schools and colleges to support the development of Nottinghamshire fencers and encourage broader participation in the sport of fencing. We can also work with local Scout Groups to deliver fencing classes and support those working towards Master at Arms badges.

In addition to national and international Under 14 medalists, the club has developed GB Under 17 and Under 20 squad members in foil and a member of the Junior GB Pentathlon Team.
